Basic Structure of Couples Coaching Couples
To begin coaching, your quartet (your couple and the couple with whom you are paired for the quarter) meets for one to three hours of focused time in which each couple creates their quarterly couple declaration, or vision statement. During the quarter, each Couple coaches the other couple in such a way that the couple sees itself as an entity and sees the power that can be derived from this type of coaching. Sometimes, the couples may need to meet more than once to come up with both couple declarations. Then, with your coaches you design a structure to realize your declaration. The structure might be a project or it may be working on the concepts or distinctions of CCC, or it may be through individualized homework given to your couple by your coaches. Finally, the couples in the quartet agree on the ground rules for the quarter (e.g., day and time of weekly calls or face-to-face meetings) and the quartet follows these basic promises and structures of CCC for the quarter.
Weekly Coaching Calls
Typically, once a week your quartet meets by phone for approximately 45 minutes, spending half the time coaching and half the time being coached. It typically works best when these calls happen at the same time every week. If it is convenient for the quartet, coaching may take place in person periodically. During these calls you agree to take actions related to your projects, to the distinctions of CCC, or to your homework and report on your results of the past week. Sometimes quartets also have 2- 3 minute check-in calls in the middle of the week to remind one another of what was discussed. This coaching continues for about twelve weeks, until the end of the quarter.
Prior to the quarterly group meeting the quartet reviews the quarter to recognize concrete results and progress made in each couple relationship. Each couple prepares for this meeting by completing a form about their experience and sharing feedback with the other couple.
This meeting is approximately 3 ½ hours long. Quartets discuss the quarter, the growth in their couples, and complete the quarter with their quartet and the circle. This is also a time during which we discuss distinctions to expand our understanding of Couple, discuss coaching techniques, or participate in a coaching demonstration. We also create new quartet relationships for the next quarter. Prospective members may also attend these meetings, which may have specific time allotted for introductory information.
